EDM Computer Labs
The Electronic Design and Multimedia program occupies a suite of networked computer labs and classrooms equipped with current hardware and software. Students have access to tools for image capture, design, high quality printing, multimedia creation, and web publishing. The facilities have been designed to provide a professional working environment for projects in design and multimedia: students are offered access to the lab over 60 hours per week. Partnerships with the leading graphics software developers provide support and vital industry input.The electronic design studio incorporates four computer labs: two general purpose labs, a lab for interactive multimedia, Web, video and 3D, and a multi-purpose lab for thesis projects and video production.
It also houses a print, imaging and digital photo output center (the “DOC” or Digital Output Center in CG206) and a design studio classroom, facilitating interaction between traditional and digital design production. With an open studio policy for currently enrolled students, the lab is available over 60 hrs./wk. under the supervision of the lab manager, faculty and lab assistants. This facility mirrors the real-world graphics environments found in industry and the arts in order to better prepare students for positions in the field.
Hardware and Software
Hardware and Software: Most computers in our labs are iMac intel series; and most of these computers have built in DVD-R and CD-R capabilities. Some computers are configured with peripherals such as flatbed or slide scanners and/or video decks. All machines are running on Mac OS X with the latest software configuration (Cinema 4D, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Adobe CS Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash).Black & white and color Laser printing is available in the classroom labs using EDM print credits.
Printing in the Digital Output Center
Printing and the Digital Output Center: the Digital Output Center provides printing on large-format printers for selected EDM courses, including B.F.A. Thesis.Read about DOC printing policies and make an online reservation for 3880 printing or or 9900 large-format printing here.
Equipment check-out in the Digital Output Center
Equipment Check-out: students have access to many digital video cameras and several digital still cameras, and may borrow equipment necessary for assignments like wacom tablets and portable sound systems.See our equipment check-out policies, sign and return the check-out form and reserve equipment here.

Student lab accounts
With our central server system a student can login from any of the computers in the lab and their personal folder follows them. Students also have access to a slide library, a reference library and the option to set up their own website on our server.Contact the Lab Managers to get a student lab account if you are in the B.F.A. or are taking an EDM course this semester.

As our program grows and our labs become increasingly full, we must all pull together to keep them running efficiently. If everyone follows a few basic rules in the lab, it will be a much cleaner, more trouble-free workspace for all.NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE COMPUTER LABS!
This has been an ongoing problem, and there is no reason why it should be. Remember, it is all too easy to accidentally spill a soda on a keyboard. Eating is permitted in the lobby lounge.
THROW AWAY YOUR TRASH!
This includes paper scraps, shopping bags, food packaging, etc. Buildings and Grounds takes care of the floors, and that's it. If you leave your trash, it is up to your fellow students to clean up after you. You don't want to clean up after someone else - please don't ask others to do so.
DO NOT SAVE YOUR WORK ON THE DESKTOP OR HARD DRIVE.
FILL OUT A PROBLEM REPORT IF YOU NOTICE A PROBLEM.
Problem reports are available in the lab, outside of CG123.
This is the fastest way to ensure that your problem is attended to, as each machine is checked daily, and those with outstanding problem reports are checked first. Not only will your question be answered here, your problem report form will be posted with an update on the bulletin board outside lab office.
